In California, a customer has the right to choose the shop where he or she would like to have their vehicle repaired.
Most insurance companies will do their best to steer customers to one of their “preferred or direct repair” shops. The goal in this is to ensure that the insurance company can get a discounted labor rate, a parts discount, and total control over how your vehicle will be repaired, with no serious benefit to you, the customer.
You, are the registered owner of your vehicle, you, sometimes pay very high insurance rates, so shouldn’t you, be able to take your vehicle to the repair shop of your choice?
Here are a few of the phrases used to manipulate the customer into using a specific “preferred” repair facility, and our rebuttals to these claims:
”Oh, sorry, we can’t guarantee the repairs at (your shop) because ‘they’ are not one of our network shops and ‘they’ are not on our list”
Advanced Collision Repair has been in business for 26 years and we guarantee our work for as long as you own your vehicle. We are recommended by most of your dealerships and will stand behind our repairs.
”Claims take longer to settle if you use them.”
All insurance companies have a window of time before they will come out to look at a vehicle. To speed this process along, we will contact your company ASAP to let them know that your vehicle is in our shop. We will do our own estimate which enables us to fax or email them what we have seen for their own comparison upon request. We want to minimize the insurance hassle that can accompany a claim.
”Oh no, they charge more than the prevailing rate for this area and you will have to “pay the difference” in repair costs.”
All repair shops have a “walk in” rate. These rates are based upon all shops in the area and have been examined by the insurance industry. We will make an agreement with your company for all repairs and costs so that the work can be completed to your satisfaction.
”If you use that shop you will have to pay for your rental out of pocket.”
If you have rental coverage on your policy you will be covered up to the amount in your policy. If you are a claimant, the other insurance company should pay for your rental for as long as it is being repaired. If you do not have coverage, let us know. We will do our best to help you obtain one, or try to lessen the time your vehicle is here by ordering parts ahead of time, and making that initial insurance contact.
